It was not what I thought it would be. I assumed it was a book with different ways to dehydrate foods - seasonings etc - or different foods that could be dehydrated. Instead it is a book of recipes to cook using already dehydrated foods.

I've had my dehydrator for 5 years and thought I'd dried everything in every conceivable way but Mary Bell has some fantastic ideas. Easy read and easier recipes. Especially liked the section on backpacker food. My dehydrator has been running 24hrs/day since I got this book. Thank you, Mary Bell, for this great book.

New Nesco 400 Watt Cast Aluminum Food Grinder 2.9 Lbs Per Minute Oversized Die-Cast Hopper Review

New Nesco 400 Watt Cast Aluminum Food Grinder 2.9 Lbs Per Minute Oversized Die-Cast Hopper

This machine works perfectly. I separately ground a boneless chuck roast and a boneless pork shoulder roast, first doing a coarse grind and running it through again for a medium grind, combined them in a bowl, and created the best burger blend I've ever had. The grind itself was identical to what I see in supermarket meat cases. The meat went through the grinder easily and clean up was quick and simple.
Sometimes there's dark discolorations in the meat. I read in FAQs that the discoloration is caused by the meat running through the hot grinder, not from any lubricant leakage. The only quibble I have is that there's a white plastic part that is essential to the grinder that is not shown in the owner's manual. I was told my one customer service person over the phone it was just for packing. I emailed the company and the head emailed back that the part must be used when grinding food. I suggest they update their manual to let people know this.
One other thing, the grinder came with a damaged hopper. I contacted the company, they had me send them pictures of the damaged part, and within a week my new part arrived. Now that's service.
This is an extremely good and powerful grinder. With power comes a noisy 400 watt motor so be ready for that. I'm extremely happy with my purchase and feel there's not a better food grinder on the market at this price point. It's probably as good or better than other more expensive grinders.

Cuisine Clean - Fruit and Vegetable Washer - oZone Review

Cuisine Clean - Fruit and Vegetable Washer - oZone

Wow, what a disappointment! The product comes fully assembled except for a small mesh bag with charcoal dust in it that needs to be insalled in the lid. Not only did I get the charcoal all over my hands but the thing keeps falling out of the lid as I run the unit! But this isn't the worst part. Over the holidays I had a friend over that is a chemist and I was showing her the unit. To her, the odor that was coming out of the unit just wasn't quite right. She asked if it was okay for her to take into work today and she just called to tell me that the unit was emitting 1,200 times the amount of ozone that is allowed by UL and OSHA!! I may not get the wording right here but I guess the allowable limit is around 50ppb (parts per billion) and according to her equipment this unit pumped out about 62ppm (parts per million) on a consistent basis. Do the math and that is over 1,200 times the allowable limit set by UL and OSHA!! How does a unit like this get carried by reputable retailers? According to my friend, the bag of charcoal on top is there for a reason, that is to break down any excess ozone as it escapes the lid. When you visit the company website they ask you to change this every 10 uses...at a cost of $4.95/baggie. Now there's an extra cost I never knew about when I bought the unit! Unfortunately, this bag of charcoal doesn't seem to be do anything...or at least not enough to get these emissions down to the right level. Mind you, once the process is done and you lift the lid, the stench of this ozone gas is so overpowering I have to always back away first...is this safe for me? What if I had children? Will it effect my pets? What really has me upset now is that I went back to the website to check out the safety procedure to follow and when you go into the MSDS section they have a lab report prepared for DEL and Air Liquide. How do these test results relate to my CuisineClean? I guess I should have looked closer before purchasing but I got mesmerized by the claims and missed some of these smaller details. Oh yeah, and one more thing, fill it with apples as per their instructions and it is unbelievable what you get out...they may be clean but they are cut and bruised all over. I can't see how this would make them last any longer?!

12.8 L Digital Ultrasonic Fruit & Vegetable Cleaner Review

I bought this without reading a single review. I searched hard for one, but guess this must be too pricey for most people to purchase it (at least, that's my guess). But since my husband and I juice every morning, we wanted something to remove pesticides. We bought this and have never regretted it. Granted, I can't prove that pesticides and other bad things (i.e e-choli) are actually removed, because I don't have a science lab at hand, I CAN say items washed are MUCH cleaner with this. I can also say we haven't gotten sick, and spinach is one of our daily ingredients (I'm reviewing this shortly after the e-choli on spinach breakout).
I have washed bunches of celery and been disgusted by what was washed off (bugs, dirt, and who knows what else). Even if we can't see much difference, we can feel a difference. For example, carrots washed in running water feel like carrots, but carrots washed in this washer feel almost like they were scrubbed clean.
If you can afford this, I highly recommend it.
I will add, for those who purchase it, that there is a metal ring in the bottom of the bowl that says 'open' and 'close.' I called Samson's help line and asked about this, since nothing is mentioned in the user's guide. The man told me to leave it alone (on the 'closed' setting), that it is for repair technicians to use.
We've used it for food, and also for our toothbrushes. They get a thorough cleaning each month, and I don't have to worry about them warping, as happens when they are boiled clean.
