New Nesco 400 Watt Cast Aluminum Food Grinder 2.9 Lbs Per Minute Oversized Die-Cast Hopper Review

I separately ground a boneless chuck roast and a boneless pork shoulder roast, first doing a coarse grind and running it through again for a medium grind, combined them in a bowl, and created the best burger blend I've ever had. The grind itself was identical to what I see in supermarket meat cases. The meat went through the grinder easily and clean up was quick and simple.
Sometimes there's dark discolorations in the meat. I read in FAQs that the discoloration is caused by the meat running through the hot grinder, not from any lubricant leakage. The only quibble I have is that there's a white plastic part that is essential to the grinder that is not shown in the owner's manual. I was told my one customer service person over the phone it was just for packing. I emailed the company and the head emailed back that the part must be used when grinding food. I suggest they update their manual to let people know this.
One other thing, the grinder came with a damaged hopper. I contacted the company, they had me send them pictures of the damaged part, and within a week my new part arrived. Now that's service.
This is an extremely good and powerful grinder. With power comes a noisy 400 watt motor so be ready for that. I'm extremely happy with my purchase and feel there's not a better food grinder on the market at this price point. It's probably as good or better than other more expensive grinders.

Nesco 1000 Watt Gardenmaster - FD1010P Review

(More customer reviews)I give the Nesco Gardenmaster 5 stars for the 1000 watt performance, it dehydrates great. However, it loses 4 stars because the design has two major flaws.
1) The fan and heating coils are located at the bottom of a concave tray, inside the base. This causes everything that drips or falls into the vents to accumulate in the middle of the base, creating a puddle of goo right where the fan motor and heating coils are. Not a good thing.
2) Since you need to clean out the muck that accumulates in the base, you will discover there is no way to open the base. To get in there, you have to literally pry the top off to clean it (I used a screw driver). Unfortunately, after figuring this out, I also figured out that once you pry it off, it will not fit back on no matter how much pounding and swearing is invovled. Didn't matter though, just trying to clean it, killed the fan, no matter how hard I tried to not get the electrical parts wet.
I also own another Nesco (newer model) that heats from the top and the base is a drip tray. Seems Nesco figured out their design flaw, because this is exactly how a dehydrater should be designed (heat from the top or side). Gravity will always pull all the juice and bits & pieces to the bottom. It makes absolutely no sense why anyone would make a dehydrator that heats from the bottom up.

Sedona Food Dehydrator Review

(More customer reviews)We researched all the raw-food approved dehydrators out there for months, and just before ordering a nine-tray Excalibur saw this newly-released marvel. The design is great; dehydrates well. Love the glass door, the dual fan option, the night-time setting (quieter), and the easy-to-clean interior. Digital display is great too. The biggest drawback is how crazy expensive this thing is (hence the 4 stars). After buying the unit, plus the silicon nonstick sheets (from another vendor, which we just trimmed with scissors), we could have put a down payment on a yacht. I also wish Tribest would offer a ten-year warranty, considering the investment, and especially since it has computerized components (which are never as reliable as the old-fashioned stuff). We bought the Sedona as an investment into our health, and I do think it will pay for itself in a decade or so. (We aren't even close to 100 percent raw, though. We mostly dehydrate snacks: crackers, fruit leathers, kale chips, and the occasional raw cookie.)
Bottom line, if you've got the 100 bucks to spare, I'd pick this over the Excalibur, but only time will tell if this baby is going to prove itself. I wish I would have had a few years-worth of reviews to look over before we made our decision.

Excalibur 2400 4 Tray Food Dehydrator - Black Review

(More customer reviews)If you do a Google search, which I should have done up front, you will see that the temperature control on these units is awful.
I have to crank mine up all the way to 145F to get the internal temp up to 100F (not even warm enough to dry without spoiling.)
Older Excaliber units were very good. As is the case with so many companies today, manufacturing has gone down hill. Fewer and fewer new purchasers are pleased with this product. I wish I had kept my shipping material. Lesson learned.

Other styles blow air from the bottom, therefore up through the layers, creating moist air conditions at the top racks. I don't trust that for safe food preservation. This unit is fast, fast, fast! And it is easy to clean. The fruit/veggies maintain beautiful colors and flavors. Highly recommend this unit.

Excalibur ED2400 4-Tray Food Dehydrator Jerky Maker Review

(More customer reviews)I left a review for this product back in March but somehow it was moved to another listing. I'll attempt leaving the review again with the hopes of saving another unsuspecting buyer from wasting his/her money:
I don't have a lot of space and thought that this 4 tray dehydrator would be the perfect solution. This thing is JUNK!!! The temperature control is completely inaccurate. On top of that, it only worked about 10 times before the heat failed completely. I tried the reset instructions to no avail. I then called the company and they made some excuse about the "rare" need for fuse replacement. The rep convinced me that it was a fluke and that the machine would most likely never need another fuse. I wanted to protect my investment so decided to chance it. It cost about $20 for the fuse/shipping. Installation instructions were fairly straight forward though it took some hassle to get everything back in place. I used the machine about 8-10 more times before it died again. What a complete waste of money--- I wish I had never purchased this product. I called the company and they offered (at full charge) to send me another fuse or I could send the product to them for repair. The cost to ship there and back plus the outrageous repair fee would equal close to what I paid for the thing in the first place. When you look inside, this thing is built like one of those light-bulb-on-a-battery things you throw together as a kid. That would be a bonus if the parts and repair were priced in accordance. This company knows how to make lots of money. I wish they had the same ambition when it came to making a decent product. I'm going back to the $30 model at my local store. Those round tray versions get a lot of bad mouthing by this company. Maybe that's because they actually LAST and they also cost (for the entire unit) only slightly more than the puny fuse in the Excalibur. Don't fall for the marketing hype like I did. This company does not stand by its product.

(More customer reviews)I had a Ronco dehydrator and needed to move up. I work all week and could only prepare foods to dry on the weekend. We get an organic farm share each week and my family was having trouble eating and processing it all before the next batch arrived. Once I got the Excalibur 9 tray, I was able to get all of my food dried with NO LOSS OF BATCHES. This thing has a thermostat and fan instead of relying on convection alone, so it works much more quickly. Now my family has gone RAW, and we make all sorts of food in the Excalibur. We use it several times per week and it is plainly AWESOME!!! This is what you need if you are really serious about drying foods or eating raw. Don't mess around - get the 9 tray and make BIG batches and save a lot of time.
